What is the difference between a king size and a queen size mattress?

A person spends about 1/3rd of his time sleeping. Is it not necessary to make sure that you spend this sleeping time in the most relaxing way possible? Buying a mattress is crucial if you want to ensure a good night’s sleep. There are many mattresses out there, but selecting the right one takes efforts and a bit of research.

King size mattress

King size beds are a symbol of luxury. A king size mattress ensures that there is sufficient space for you and your partner. It will certainly give you the feeling that you are sleeping on a mattress of a five-star hotel. However, one needs to be vary as a king size mattress is not everybody’s cup of tea. Most of the times, people do not have the space to house a king size mattress. You do not want your room to look congested. So, it is important to first ensure the dimensions of your room and the mattress that you plan on purchasing.

A king size mattress comes in two sizes; California King mattress and King Mattress.

King size: Such mattresses are ideal for two adults along with a kid or a pet. Its dimensions are 76 inches by 80 inches.

California king size: Their dimensions are 72 inches by 84 inches. It is ideal for couples. They are also suitable for plus-sized people.

As you can see, the California king size mattress is 4 inches wider but shorter than a king size mattress.

Queen size mattress

Queen size mattresses are larger than full size mattress by one size and smaller than king size mattress by one size. Dimensions of a standard queen size mattress are 60 inches by 80 inches. A queen size mattress is suitable for those who do not have the space to afford a king size mattress yet want to have a large mattress that is comfortable enough for them to relax.

Now that you know the basics about king size and queen size mattresses, you should be able to figure out which one would be best for you. A king size mattress would give you an extra 16 inches over a queen size mattress. So choose wisely and buy according to your needs.
