Step 2: It is wise to prepare the place. Use some newspaper to cover the surface you place the toaster on. Make sure you have enough workspace. Place a trash can nearby. You don’t know how far crumbs and other food particles can go.
Step 3: If there is a crumb tray in the toaster, make sure you take it out. Remove the crumbs. Use mild detergent and some water to wash the item. Towel dry it or let it rest for a while.
If the toaster doesn’t have such a tray, it may be very helpful to turn the machine upside down to remove all the debris and crumbs. Gently shake the toaster.
Step 4: In case there are still some crumbs left inside, go for another method. Sweep the debris with a paint brush. Be very careful and gentle as you don’t want to damage the surface. Most toasters don’t allow non-food items to be inserted. Also, make sure you don’t touch some heating elements while brushing the surface.
Step 5: If after doing all this, you still see debris and crumbs, it’s time to use canned air. This is supposed to help dislodge the particles.
In case you want to give the toaster a thorough clean from inside, use salt crystals. Through the toaster slots, add the crystals and cover them with greaseproof paper. Next, use tape to fasten the paper to the slots. Now that you did all this, gently shake the toaster. Salt can help get rid of food particles and debris. One thing you should have in mind when using this method is that once you are done, you need to make sure all the salt is gone. Otherwise you may have to deal with corrosion. This is the reason why the salt crystals should be large.
When you remove the tape, turn the toaster upside down one more time and shake. Make sure you dispose of all the salt.
Disinfecting the interior
When you finish cleaning the pop-up toaster, it is wide to disinfect it. After all, you are going to cook food inside. Prepare a solution of bleach and water. You need ten parts of water and one part of bleach. Take a cloth and dip it into the solution. After that squeeze it to remove the excess water. You don’t want it to be soaked, you only need it to be slightly dampened.
Next, take a spoon and wrap the cloth around its handle. Go over the toaster slots. Before you use the toaster again, make sure you let it dry completely. Remember to wipe the exterior as well. You are done!
